Cramping In Style

To the Walls

Now that we had a working floor, we could slap in the walls! We used the same inch thick, R-5 insulation for the walls, cutting it into smaller pieces to match the curvature. For the walls themselves, we were originally going to use 3/4 inch tongue and groove boards, but on our way out of the lumber section, Taylor spotted these packs of six tongue and groove siding boards for significantly cheaper. We grabbed a couple of these to get started, and will likely go back for more once we figure out how much we’ll need.

Taylor’s pal donated some fiberglass insulation to our cause, which we’ll use to stuff the cavities in the doors. Its R-19, so almost four times as intense as the rigid insulation board that we used for the walls and floor. We’ll use something similar for the ceiling when we get there, as that’s where we’ll be at risk of losing the most hot air.

We screwed the top board into the studs I’d put in earlier and worked down from there. We won’t be putting this nice siding behind the bed/benches and the cabinetry, so we left openings where those will go to fill in with some plywood later on down the road.

Finally, we tried to introduce the pups to the van, where they will hopefully spend a big part of their summer. It didn’t go too well; they’re a little wary of the van, probably because of all the noisy power tools they associate with it. We’ll turn em around eventually.
